First Orthodontic Visit at Sorensen Orthodontics

We’re always excited to welcome new patients to Sorensen Orthodontics, and we want you to know that you are truly special to us. From the moment you arrive, our warm and friendly team will make sure you feel right at home. Your comfort is a top priority, and we want your first visit to be smooth, informative, and relaxed.

Please check in with our receptionist when you arrive so we can get you started promptly.

What Happens During Your First Orthodontist Consultation?

Your initial appointment will take place in a private exam room and typically lasts about 30 to 45 minutes. One of our orthodontic assistants will begin by taking digital photos of the inside and outside of your mouth. Once these images are uploaded to our system, Dr. Travis Sorensen will perform a gentle and thorough orthodontic examination.

After the exam, Dr. Sorensen will meet with you (and any family members you’d like to include) to walk through his findings, explain potential treatment options, and answer all your questions. We want to ensure that you leave with a clear understanding of what to expect, so don’t hesitate to ask anything!

What’s the Goal of the Initial Orthodontic Exam?

This visit helps us determine the best approach for your smile. During the exam, we’ll address important questions like:

  • Are there any orthodontic issues that need attention?

  • When is the ideal time to start treatment?

  • What type of orthodontic care is recommended?

  • How long will the treatment process take?

  • What are the expected costs involved?

  • Will any permanent teeth need to be removed?

We are always happy to follow up with a call or visit if you have more questions after your appointment.

If treatment is recommended at your initial exam, we may reserve time that same day—about 15 to 30 minutes—to gather diagnostic records, if your schedule allows.

What Are Diagnostic Records?

These in-depth records allow Dr. Sorensen to create a fully customized treatment plan and may include:

  • Digital impressions or models of your teeth

  • Panoramic and cephalometric X-rays

  • Growth analysis and tracings

This careful analysis helps us deliver high-quality results and greater satisfaction, because there really is a difference in personalized care.

Helpful Reminders Before Your First Visit

To help us serve you better, please have the following ready when scheduling your appointment:

  • A panoramic x-ray taken within the past six months (if available)

  • Your orthodontic insurance details, if applicable

These help us prepare thoroughly for your visit and offer the most accurate cost and treatment plan.

Understanding the Cost of Treatment

The cost of your treatment depends on the complexity of your case. After your consultation with Dr. Sorensen, one of our front office team members will sit down with you to go over:

  • The total cost of treatment

  • Payment options that suit your budget

  • Use of flex-spending accounts (FSAs) or HSAs

  • Insurance plan coverage and details

We’re committed to making orthodontic care affordable and stress-free. If you have orthodontic insurance, please share that information when you call to schedule—this allows us to provide a more accurate cost estimate.

What Does My Orthodontic Investment Include?

Your treatment plan includes:

  • Initial orthodontic records (photos, x-rays, impressions)

  • Active treatment with braces or Invisalign®, including all in-office visits and appliances

  • Durable, high-quality appliances (note: fees apply for damage or misuse)

  • One set of final retainers after completing Phase II treatment

Lost or damaged retainers? We’re happy to replace them for a fee.

What’s Not Included?

Your investment does not include:

  • Dental services performed outside of Sorensen Orthodontics

  • Treatment related to injuries, TMJ issues, or surgical procedures

Insurance and Assignment of Benefits

We gladly accept assignment of benefits from most insurance providers to help lower your out-of-pocket costs. Even if we are not in-network, we can still file your claim so you can receive reimbursement directly.

Please let us know right away if your insurance changes during treatment to keep your contract current and avoid delays.
